Myths:
- Vampires are incapable of flight. They can not levitate, float, fly, or produce wings.
- They cannot shape shift into bats or any other creature.
- They are not dead, just mutated over thousands of years.
- These Vampires did not originate from a bat bite.
Origination
- While myth has it that they were bit by bats or came from Gods, the Vampires came to be by genetic mutation.
- Over the course of thousands and thousands of years, DNA had randomly mutated.
- The first genetic mutation was the severe lack of iron in the body. Healers told them to consume iron by any means necessary. Therefore, they started first on the blood of animals. As the mutation progressed, they begun to feed off of the blood of humans as it was richer in this essential supplement.
- The first of their kind was known as Solomon Laureate. Rumor has it that he is still alive but no one has seen him.
- Through these mutations, selective breeding ensued, creating the current breed of Vampires.
- The severe mutations of these humans caused them to be unable to conceive children from anyone but their own kind.
Turning a Human
- The bite of a vampire is poisonous to humans. Their saliva mixed with the human blood can either kill them or change them.
- A human may often go without any symptoms for nearly a weeks time. It is then when they will either become fatally ill or their DNA will begin to change to accommodate the poison.
- The changes their body undergoes will be much like that of a pubescent vampire. However, a human turned vampire will not have all the strengths that a pure-blood has. They will be unable to recover as quickly and cannot hibernate. In fact, their life spam is a mere 200 years.
Weaknesses
- Sunlight- Vampires do not dissipate in the sunlight. Instead, they pass out in a coma-like state. Length of exposure determines the length of their illness. They become weakened and unable to move for a period of time.
- Silver- Vampires can touch silver. However, should it penetrate the skin, they will become sickly like a severe allergic reaction. Their throats will close, and they will need to consume a large quantity of blood to heal. Should they go untreated, it is likely they will die.
- Blood Thirst- Vampires must consume one helping of blood every day. Without it, they will first become weak and eventually die depending on how long they went without. After consumption, they may eat other foods.
Having Children
- Vampires cannot have children with anyone other than vampires.
- Normally, the egg will not fertilize but if it does, it will result in a miscarriage.
- Vampire children do not exhibit any vampiric traits until they hit puberty. Up until pubescence, they are vulnerable and need to be protected at all times. During puberty, they will undergo a long process of changes. This time period can take up to a year for all changes to take place. The change is painful and can cause erratic behavior from the teenager. Puberty hits on average at the age of 15. After they have reached 30, they will no longer show signs of aging.
Rituals
- There are no "marriage" rituals.
- To hibernate, several members within the castles must enter the chamber where all sleeping vampires are kept. There are stone like structures beneath the ground that must be lifted and pulled from the ground. There, vampires will be placed separately inside. The tomb like structures will then be slowly dropped securely into the ground. There are several locks that only the current leader of the vampires can access to reopen the tombs.
- To awaken, their leader must privately enter the chamber. There, he/she will unlock that particular tomb. Other vampires will then enter and re-lift the structure from the ground. A human will be sacrificed and their blood will be poured into the mouth of the sleeping vampires. Slowly, they will begin to awake. They must feast on at least 3 human bodies before they are capable of standing. A total of at least 5 before they are back to full health. During this time, they are vulnerable to attacks and can be killed. They will be kept in a private guarded room for their protection.
The Castles
- Vampires often live in large castles, ruled by a single leader. Each castle defines a different group of vampires. They are often competing and generally do not like one another. The only time they will come together is when the species is under attack.
- These castles are large with hundreds to a thousand rooms within. They tend to be on top or near the top of the mountains to keep out of harms way.
Enemies
- The Elves- Hundreds of years ago, the Elves held a wide range of magical abilities. They were pure-bloods and the Vampires feared they would become the dominant race. They slaughtered them and attempted to massacre the entire race. They do not drink the blood of Elves because it is richer than human blood and often poisonous to the Vampires.
