Definition: engaged in or having the power of flight.
Appearance:
- Generally short felines. Males do not reach above 2'6" while females do not reach above 2'4".
- Light weight with hallow bones. On average, they may weigh around 10lbs.
- Large heart (in comparison to the body size) to help pump blood to the entire body and wings.
- Wings are feathered and range in a number of colors. The wings are large in comparison to the body.
- Short snout, similar in shape to a snow leopards.
- Their fur is fuzzy to keep them warm in the mountains but light enough for flight. Down undercoat.
- Short fluff tail.
- Fairly sharp claws to grab food from the air.
- Pointed slicked back ears for less air resistance.
General Information:
- The must eat frequently due to a very high metabolism. Meals generally consist of small animals and rodents.
- They will sometimes fly down to the forests of Godiva when food is scarce.
- They live in small groups of about 10-15.
- They live to about 10 years give or take.
- Because their bones are hollow, they are very easily broken aside from their claws and teeth.
Habitat:
- Volants are mountain dwellers and are adapted to the high altitudes.
- Their wing evolution was a way to to live on the jagged edges of the mountain cliffs. Their sharp claws also allow them to burror holes into the mountain to stay warm.
- The generally do not venture from Godiva.
Breeding/ Raising Children:
- Females only have 1 kitten per litter and are pregnant for about 3 months.
- They reach sexual maturity at about 8 months.
- Males sometimes display interest in a female by flying with her romantically and playfully in the sky.
